What is the Gospel?

Thank you for being here on my blog! I’m so thankful for every reader and friend that make up my community, and I consider community a gift from God. I’m grateful for all the gifts I’ve received from God, the greatest of which is Jesus.

Here’s why, in four main points:

  1. God is a loving creator. And he created us! Because He created us, He also has authority over us. With this authority, He gave humans one rule.

  2. We broke God’s rule. In other words, we sinned. The world was perfect, and humans decided we wanted it our way instead of God’s way. To pay for our sins, something innocent had to die. But God didn’t leave us for death.

  3. Jesus paid the penalty.  Our victoriously risen Jesus lived the perfect life we couldn’t live and died the death that we deserved. Despite being tempted in every way, Jesus lived sinlessly; allowing us to once again be in friendship with the God who sent Him.

  4. We choose to follow Him. We have a responsibility to respond to what Jesus did for us. Either we reject it and tell God we want our own way, or we tell God we want it His way. But in His way, we don’t just get to accept the gift and do nothing. Rather, the gospel compels us to live a life worthy of this calling; which means we count the costs of rejecting our self-centered desires and giving our life over to His leadership.

I don’t know how things are going for you, but I have come to realize that I cannot save myself from my brokenness. But thanks be to God, for in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, I have more than enough for this life and eternal life.

This is good news. This is the greatest gift. This is the gospel.
